Synopsis Maya is a fiercely independent event planner whose life runs on tight schedules and endless checklists. Elias is a brilliant, work-from-home software developer who has exactly one priority in life: Maya. To the outside world, Elias is a quiet, reserved professional. But at home, he is an absolute koala. He needs to be in the same room, holding her hand, or resting his chin on her shoulder at all times. My Favorite Shadow is a lighthearted, deeply romantic story about balancing ambition with a love that literally refuses to let go. (My First Online Novel)

I only downloaded that child-raising app to relax, but instead I ended up with a virtual kid whose drunk dad kept turning him into a punching bag. Every time I logged in, my poor baby was covered in bruises, and I sat there yelling at my phone, "Give me a weapon so I can yeet this trash father into the sun!" Cute game? More like a rage simulator. One morning, half-asleep, I opened my bathroom door and almost fainted. My little in-game boy was right there in real life, shivering in a pile of straw with those huge watery eyes. Game pixels turned into a real kid. And me? Congratulations, I was suddenly a mom on a warpath. Whoever dared to hurt him next better run, because this mama had fists, snacks, and zero patience.

Family are those we pick along the way. Cynthia is bound to learn this lesson the hard way. Raised in the Foster system, and recently widowed, she finds herself in the very difficult situation of raising her six-years-old daughter, her one and only driving force, without any kind of support. But this is no small feat. Bills pile up in her house, and day after day it gets increasingly hard to get as much as a decent meal on her table. If this keeps up, Cynthia risks even losing her daughter. It's Mathilde Royston, a difficult and lonely old woman, the one giving Cynthia the chance she so desperately needs. Although eccentric and short-tempered, Mathilde's heart isn't carved from stone, and though she likes to keep others away, she can't help but warm up for the witty six-year-old Jeanne, thus setting up the foundations in which this unlikely trio will learn the most important lesson of their lives: nothing beats the bond of a family, not even if isn't blood-related.
