The former crown prince's offense was the refusal to take a wife and provide heir for Lan Kingdom. Lan Xichen's chief consort Qin Su advised that perhaps the criminal Wei Wuxian would kill the cold prince (as the former crown prince is known) to clear the way for Lan Xichen to ascend the throne.
