Katherine never intended to run away. In fact, she had planned to live out the rest of her regenerations on the beautiful planet Gallifrey. She had a future there. What he didn't realize at the time, is that the Girl inside accidentally ran away with him, and she never looked back. But the life of travel in the TARDIS with the Doctor is a dark one.
