Opal and Jess are two typical teenage girls living in the Irish countryside in 2005. Opal is your average, shy, ambivert, animal lover. She's shy at first, but once you get to know her, she'll never stop talking. Jess is not exactly ordinary. She is much more passionate about, well- everything than most people. She isn't fancy, and because of her intensiveness, most people don't understand her. But she is extremely protective of Jess. And Opal is like the mom of the two. So, of course, she tries to help Jess stay out of trouble, but when she addresses Jess's cigarette addiction, it lands their friendship in hot water and lands Jess in rehab thousands of miles away, in San Bernardino.
