Lucy Birdsong knows tragedy by heart.
By day, she teaches Shakespeare to undergrads at Brooklyn College, spends her nights beneath stage lights, and takes the last ferry home to an apartment she can barely afford on Staten Island. Her next door neighbor is another kind of tragedy entirely.
Frank Castle is older, cold, rude, and impossible to read. He keeps strange hours, rarely speaks unless it's to tell her to keep the noise down, and has an unsettling habit of appearing in the hallway just when she thinks she's alone.
She tells herself he's none of her business. Then again, Shakespeare always did have something to say about doomed romances.
"The rarer action is in virtue than in vengeance."
