Because what kind of E.R tech works a 24-hour shift, assists in trauma cases so efficiently it's like she knows what he needs before even he himself does, and carries grief on her shoulders like it's the only real thing she knows how to feel? ( What kind of E.R tech looks at him and makes him immediately believe he's suffering from heart palpitations as a result of a tachycardia episode? ) He doesn't know. ( But he finds out quickly that he'd very much like to. )
