Nearly a year has passed since the battle that saved Copper 9.
The world has finally grown quiet.
Deep beneath the frozen surface, the bunker has become a place where Worker Drones can laugh, rebuild, and dream about a future they never thought they'd have. N and Uzi have settled into their new life together, Sparky continues causing chaos wherever he goes, and everyone does their best to leave the past where it belongs.
Alone near the Spire, J spends every day repairing the abandoned landing pod, hoping to escape the planet she no longer feels welcome on. Bound by the threat to never hunt another Worker Drone, she's slowly running out of oil while hiding the truth from everyone. Inside a forgotten JCJenson office that secretly became her home long before everything fell apart, she buries herself in repair logs, unfinished drawings, battery acid, and work, convincing herself that the team she secretly thought of as her family is happier without her.
Back inside the bunker, J's name is spoken with anger, fear, and resentment. To almost everyone, she's the drone who betrayed them and nearly doomed the planet. Only N believes she deserves another chance.
V tells herself she doesn't care.
She tells herself J made her choice.
She tells herself she's better off forgotten.
But every glance toward the Spire, every quiet moment, and every memory she tries to bury says otherwise. Unknown to V, J spends every lonely night believing V hates her just as much.
When Worker Drones begin mysteriously disappearing and suspicion immediately falls on J, old wounds are ripped open once again. Forced to work together to uncover the truth, V and J must decide whether the bond they lost can still be repaired... or if some scars were never meant to heal.
Sometimes the hardest thing to fix...
...isn't a broken machine.
It's a broken heart.
