What is a Soulmate? After ten years of fruitless efforts, fully bonded, beloved mates Kingston and Sora have failed to produce the Thornwoof pack Alpha heir. Time has run out. The ancient Tenth Law, with all its archaic rules and procedures, is enacted and, over the Luna's objections, the Alpha is forced to use a Breeder for the continued survival of the pack. Survival is messy. McKay has arrived prepared to provide life for a pack in need. What the well-meaning young Breeder isn't prepared for is the powerful feeling for a mated wolf that is not hers. Will the destined child be their ruin? Questions must be answered - what is a soulmate? Set in a modern world, this is not a fairy tale ending - it's a cautionary tale of how folklore gets written. How does someone disappear? How do you start over where no one knows who you are? Where your past can't find you? Losing both parents a young age, then shuffled through the system, Gabby learned to stand tall and weather any storm. She didn't begrudge her past, rather regarded it as what made her strong, giving her the ability to face challenges rather than run away. With no attachments, after obtaining an advanced degree and licensing as a Nurse Practitioner, Gabby was on the hunt for new adventures. One took her to New York City, where she worked for a family she was certain was involved with the Mafia. She knew to ask no questions and made it a point to hear nothing. When the five-month assignment ended, she moved on to the next adventure: Boston. In Boston, she found something unexpected: a (grand)father figure. Caring for Bernard Driscoll, a self-made billionaire, was a dream come true. Conversations with Bernard were deep, he listened and gave advice like a grandfather. She genuinely loved him. It would have been a perfect assignment if not for his unredeemable grandson, Sebastian. Sebastian Driscoll was driven man, determined to make his grandfather proud by growing the family business. A phenom in business, his love life was a disaster. His penchant for dating fake women that were only after his wealth had driven a wedge between the two Driscolls. At his wits' end, Bernard set a plan in motion. After persuasion and a little coercion, he convinced Gabby and Sebastian to marry. In their mind, it was never meant to last, and love wasn't part of the equation. Until it was. But when Bernard's health failed and he passed, Sebastian changed into someone Gabby didn't recognize and their relationship imploded. After a disastrous dinner party, Gabby received a text photo of Sebastian with another woman. She was done. With public opinion painting her as the villain, Gabby used her New York connections to disappear without a trace.

I heard his laugh before I saw her, and I already knew - that loose, unguarded version of it, the one I'd never once heard him aim at me. I found him with my eyes and there he was, all six feet six of him tilted toward Cathie like she was the only thing in the room worth standing near, his sharp eyes tracking her face with an attention I had spent three years quietly starving for. Something in my chest didn't break. It just went still. I set his coffee down on the bench - oat milk, no sugar, memorized without him ever asking - and walked away.

He cheated. He lied. And he thought I'd never find out. For three years, I gave everything to my marriage while my husband, Nathan, secretly gave his time, affection, and promises to another woman. Then I found the proof. And from that moment on, something inside me changed. I didn't confront him. I didn't cry in front of him. I didn't let a single word slip. Nathan never noticed. To him, I was still the same loving wife who trusted him completely. He had no idea that every smile, every quiet dinner, and every ordinary conversation was hiding a truth he wasn't supposed to know. While Nathan continued living comfortably, believing his secret was safe, I quietly began rebuilding the life I had sacrificed for him-my career, my confidence, my independence, and the woman I used to be. I wasn't planning a scene. I was planning my exit. And when the time comes, Nathan won't get a warning. He won't get an explanation. He won't even get the chance to watch me fall apart. He'll simply wake up one day and realize that the wife he thought would always be there... is gone. Not broken. Not begging. Not waiting for him. Just finally free. And by the time Nathan discovers what I knew all along, I'll be far beyond his reach.
