He wanted his ex-girlfriend back, so he planned to make her jealous. (He was the reason she lost her scholarship.) She wanted to punish him for taking away her future, so she agreed to his plan. (She was the reason he lost his heart.) They didn't plan to fall in love with each other. (But where can it go when they've both convinced themselves that it's all a game?)
