"Wow! Sounds like a lot of fun!" he exclaims and my heart dies. "What did you say?" He cannot be serious right now. He is not supposed to think that this is going to be fun. He is supposed laugh in my face then head downstairs to his group of friends and distract every girl in the cafeteria with his freaking face. That is how it's supposed to go. "Yeah, I'll be your date thing." NO. This is not how it's supposed to go. *** Carmen Estrella is NOT a party animal. No, no, no. She'd much rather stay home on her couch or hang out with her friends in a much more "low-key" manner. If she's feeling adventurous, maybe she'll even make it past her driveway. Definitely not interested in the party scene. So when Carmen's family and persistent 70-year-old grandmother insists on her having a Debut party for her 18th birthday, she doesn't hesitate before disagreeing. Unable to back out of the Filipino tradition, Carmen finds herself in a compromising situation of trying to find her Court of Honour and personal Escort when she hasn't spoken to the male population since birth. The plan? Ask Brennan Coleman, the most popular boy at school, get rejected, and fake being heartbroken so that her family will back off. However, when "the plan" doesn't go as planned, and Brennan miraculously agrees to be her date, Carmen finds herself pushed into the world of Filipino chaos, party planning, and handling Brennan Coleman at the same time. Meanwhile, they might even learn a thing or two about what it means to live in a diverse society. TW: some parts dealing with racism and racial slurs, colourism, homophobia and transphobia, mental illnesses (eating disorders and suicide), and acts of violence. READ AT YOUR OWN RISK.

Remiya Siu is just trying to get through her senior year in one piece. Between writing articles for the school's newspaper, her part-time job at a local diner, and the piles of assignments she has to plow through for her AP classes, she barely has time to breathe. Any wish. Sozo is one of the lucky chosen, but she has a secret: as an Omen -- cursed beings that can transform into monsters -- she's forbidden from competing. Discovery would mean her death. Can she hope to keep her identity a secret, let alone win the race, especially as the talented and sunny Naqi enters the picture? When Sozo is given an ultimatum, she has to choose: betray her Omen people, or betray the people who are slowly, surely, becoming like a family to her. --- WATTYS AWARD 2020 "Bar none, this was [Senior Editorial Specialist] Amanda's absolute favourite read from the Wattys this year. It makes you cry, just from pure, uncontainable joy, and the ending kept us reading until nearly 6am. Everything about this story is beautiful. We were astounded that anyone could create something so magnificent and moving and magical. This level of storytelling mastery will never not blow us away." [Word Count: 70,500]

The Gold, the missing things we look for insistently. We need them to adorn our soul, to light up the hazy days. A beautiful spin through the garden of youth, and the roses have dried blood on their thorns. The Forest, the trek deeper into the mind. The trees are ancient and worn. They are tired, resting in their birthplace, never to move. They provide solace for the weary. They whisper a lesson: embrace the history, and move forward. The two ends of a story are tying together. "Coffee?" //Updates on weekends

Nancy Pang doesn't have a clue what love is. All she knows is that it's not going to help her win the Junior Mathematics Tournament, or get her into Harvard, or do anything except disrupt her college-prep life. Love is also not the solution to her brother's post-college problems, or her parents' constant fighting...(okay, maybe it is). And love certainly won't solve the issue of that annoying Alexander Lin who beats her in looks, popularity, AND intelligence. Unfortunately for Nancy, love is in the air whether she likes it or not.
