Once you take that ride from Lastome and get ferried away on the Frontier River, you're putting yourself out of reach of the immediate protection of the Unified Kingdoms of Oldris and entering into the rough and tumble struggles of the Greater Western Oldris Frontier. Destin had always been like this. Running from his problems, putting them off, ignoring them hoping that they'd just go away or that an easier alternative would present itself. Destin knew that this time, however, he couldn't just run back to his hidey-hole back at his father's smith in the small frontier village of Ever. He'd made a mistake too large to hide, too pressing to ignore. Destin knew he had to face this problem head-on, with a determination and a maturity that he'd never before displayed in his nineteen years of life.
