James was just coming out of his Winter Soldier side. He met the Avengers but still had some of the Winter Soldier left in him, he didn't want to get close with any of the Avengers besides Steve but when Steve asks Wanda to help James out they don't get along but the more they get to know each other the more he likes her more than Steve.

Wanda (scarlet witch) is sent to 1945 by a blast of her energy, where she meets a young Sergeant Barnes (Bucky). She had heard that he was charming back then, but she had no clue how charming.
