In the wake of World War III, which decimated most of the world's population, the remaining survivors vowed to not continue to repeat the same mistakes of the past. Innovative forms of technology have enabled them to abandon the old model and re-engineer a better way of living for all. Brain implants and genetic modifications have made an entire population educated, healthy, and kind. Despite the benefits of this technology, it has created some unforeseen side effects that threaten humankind's existence. I was never meant to leave that room. I had spent my whole life in there, imagining what it was like on the outside. I looked forward to the day when I would finally be allowed to leave. But that day was never supposed to come. Until James decided to keep his promise. He had always been there, on the other side of the glass. Waiting. The experiment wasn't over. He was still waiting for me to change. But I didn't change. Not until that night. It was dark, and there was rain. The sound of the car engine was loud, but the crash was louder. In the crash, I became something different. I changed. But not for James. This new part of me emerged for one reason; to save her. This story is a first draft and will contain typos and grammatical errors. I apologize for these in advance, and hope you can see beyond them to the story beneath. Happy reading!

"Once you enter the Twilight Forest, you cannot leave." Growing up, Charlotte heard legends and stories about hunters who went into the forest in search of its riches but never came back, that's why no one dared to go inside other than to hunt and for water, but Charlotte has always wanted to journey into it. Her mother, Fern Cutteridge, didn't approve of her idea. In fact, she didn't approve of anything Charlotte thought or said unless it involved sewing, cooking and marriage. But Charlotte hated learning how to cook and sewing cloaks, she wanted to learn how to hunt, but sadly that never happened. One day, her parents call her in for a talk about marriage, but she insists that she isn't ready for that so she runs away into the forest where she meets Clarivoy, a fox who soon becomes her friend and they journey into the twilight forest together. However, not everything is what it seems, the entire forest is controlled by an enchantress, Althea and if Charlotte doesn't find a way to stop her, she may never go home again. Then again, not everything is as it seems. And tht is something she'll have to remember. © Copyright 2013 Gabriela P.R. Campos. Cover made by @TrafficCop
