Book One Theo Grimes' world turns completely upside-down when a mysterious outbreak causes panic and death. She is forced to flee her home with her family to survive with strangers, however one of those strangers seem to have caught her interest, and before she knew it, he had also grown to want to know Theo more. Theo thought it was impossible to find love, instead it was found during the worst time in human history.

The world as we knew it came crashing down with the outbreak of a deadly virus that caused the dead to rise and seek out human flesh. Amidst the chaos, Rick Grimes was presumed dead, and his wife and son were forced to flee the city to stay alive. Accompanying them was Lori's closest friend, who took on the responsibility of caring for her friend's son alongside her in the absence of his father. When Rick unexpectedly returned, the friend showed immense relief, even more so than his wife.
