"Time. There's never enough time." I lean back but keep my hands on him. "You of all people should know that by now."
"I wish I didn't."
I tilt my head. "Oh there's a certain art to it, it's something to master and quite beautiful." I run my thumb along his lower lip, "You learn to capture each moment," I run it up his cheek, "memorise each trace," under his eye and along his jaw, "remember every touch." I swallow, "Because you know that each one of those is the most precious thing, the only thing that keeps you going when time has it in for you." My hand trembles and I clench it closed, "It's a lovely trick to learn."
"Lovely but never enough," he murmurs.
"But it's all too many of us have." I lick my lips. "It's all we have for the moment."
