Shouta had always wanted a cat - it was among one of the few things he wanted more in his life. His apartment got lonely and quiet. He'd never gotten one of course, he'd rescued them but never thought himself a good owner. He could barely take care of himself, never mind another living thing. So, when he rescued a hurt kitten from an alley, he took it straight to the Shelter as his usually did. That should have been it. Except, the Kitten that had looked at him with complete love and trust with bright green eyes, seems to find his way back into his life. Izuku Midoriya hadn't felt love in a long time, he'd been three when his Quirk set in, and had been three when he lost his humanity. He didn't know how long it had been, maybe two years? He remembers two blistering Winters. He remembers his Father's anger, and his Mother promise - but she never did come back. Izuku Midoriya hadn't felt love in a long time - but maybe he'll be given another chance even if he stands on four paws.

All Might tell Midoriya he can't be a hero when he's quirkless. Does that stop the green bean? Nope. Finding an abandoned toddler in an alleyway wasn't on his to do list though. But no one cared enough to care if he adopted the kid or not. And if anyone thought something small like a villainous quirk was enough to put Midoriya off, then they were very, very wrong. He knew what it was like, after all.

Izuku Midoriya was a weird kid. He could usually be seen near Dagobah Beach, either in or around the vast piles of trash. If you asked him why he was rummaging around in garbage, he'd simply answer, 'one man's trash is another man's treasure!' and continue on his way, his large grey dog bounding along behind him. If you asked a resident who lived around the place, they'd look at you blandly, then perk up, saying, 'you mean the clock tower boy? Oh, yeah, he lives over there.' They'd point to the old clock tower, sitting not to far away. 'Strange little fellow,' they'd sometimes hum, before you left. The tower was a large, beautiful piece of work, the workmanship was very unusual in Japan. You'd say it was interesting, and then continue on your way, forgetting all about the clock tower boy. If you ever got to know the said clock tower boy, you might call him insane. Or mysterious, but you'd probably call him both. He was strange, mind seeming to be all over the place, and mouth mumbling things incomprehensible to the inexperienced ear. Would you like to know what he is mumbling? Would you like to know what goes on underneath those green curls? Perhaps it's omniscient knowledge, or secrets too shrouded in ebony to fully see. Is it calculated with numbers and with strings of possible networks? A never-ending stream of constant plannings? Or maybe. it's all dark. Like floating through an endless void of blackened waters. No one could really know could they? Even mind readers. They'd see, and look and feel all the feelings, but they could never, ever, understand the messy, mad-as-hatter blueprint mind that was Izuku Midoriya. Izuku Midoriya, couldn't be a hero. But despite this, he soon finds he's a magnet for trouble, particularly trouble involving children. There a lot's of children in the city with quirks that cause issues for them and the people around them. And if their parents won't care for them then he will! It may not have been the type of hero he wanted to be. But he's a hero none the less!
