Ze zat 5 maanden in Coma en toen ze wakker werd hoorde ze dat haar broer zich heeft opgeofferd voor haar en dat hij is overleden. Melissa heeft een gave dat ze alles kan, maar ook echt alles nou jah een ding kan ze niet en dat is de hele dag zingen. Door het ongeluk zijn haar stembanden beschadigd. Haar broer en haar beste vriendin Katelynn hebben haar altijd gesteund en gezegd dat zij haar dromen moet waarmaken al zegt de rest van haar familie dat ze dit niet kan. Haar vader heeft ze nooit ontmoet en haar moeder vertelt steeds leugens over hem en waar die misschien kan zijn. Melissa komt nu op school met allemaal kinderen van Los Angeles die ook nog wat ouder zijn dus in hun ogen is ze nog een kind. Ze is nog niet meerderjarig terwijl ze achttien is. Iedereen gaat ooit een keer rouw meemaken maar hoe ze er mee omgaan is voor iedereen anders. In Los Angèles beginnen de verhalen van deze nieuwe generatie. Een gevaarlijke muzikant die in de voetstappen van zijn oma wil treden maar niet kan doen zonder zijn moeder te kwetsen. Een reizende fashion designer die haar kansen in haar carrière moet pakken maar die nog steeds zit met de dood van haar zus. Een Kunstenaar die creatief verbouwd wordt door andere en een soldaat die nog veel goed te maken heeft. Ieder heeft zo zijn eigen weg en eigen problemen maar dat leidt ze allemaal naar een specifieke plek.
