In un paesino immaginario della provincia del Nord Italia avviene un omicidio che sembra ricollegarsi a una serie di assassini degli anni precedenti. Nella monotonia delle sue giornate, distrutto dall'alcool e dalla separazione dalla donna con la quale era riuscito a fuggire dalla vita piatta del paese, l'agente Roman viene messo a indagare sul caso, assieme al fidato collega e amico Tony. Convinto sin dall'inizio che sia opera di un emulatore del cosiddetto "killer delle cameriere" insiste per consultare un esterno, un certo "Corto" del quale nessuno si fida. È infatti un uomo bizzarro che si aggira per il paese accompagnato da una scimmia. Roman comincia così a indagare su un piano parallelo: formalmente segue la pista suggerita da Tony e dal loro capo e intanto segue i suggerimenti di Corto che continua a incontrare di nascosto. Nel frattempo istaura una relazione con una ragazza molto più giovane di lui, anche lei coinvolta nell'omicidio. Senza accorgersene si ritroverà in una spirale di convinzioni dalla quale non sarà facile uscire.

Una micro-wolfstar (Sirius/Remus) giusto perché ce ne sono pochissime ormai. I due sono al loro quinto anno, alla stazione di King's Cross. Il Natale è alle porte, e si torna a casa per le vacanze.

The Marauders are starting their fifth year at Hogwarts; Remus is starting with a massive scar across his face - a byproduct of the increasing severity of his furry little problem, which is a definite cause for concern despite his insistence that it it's fine. Sirius is starting with the memories of a certain morning at 12 Grimmauld Place in August: memories that he might not ever forget, yet is desperate to cloak underneath the facade that every is fine at home and that he and his parents just sometimes encounter minor disagreements. James is starting his fifth year, yes, but more importantly, he is starting phase five of his plan to woo Lily Evans: somehow his friends seem doubtful that he might succeed, but James, being James, is in no lack of confidence. And Peter, well, Peter is starting to wonder just why he puts up with these people, and if he should really be feeling sorry for Lily Evans, and maybe if he should have asked to have been sorted into Hufflepuff.

It's fourth year for the Marauders. During summer, Remus is always at a dog park. One day he sees a big black dog who wont leave him alone. Remus doesn't mind though. He is completely oblivious.

Despite his monthly issue, Remus couldn't complain about much. He has two parents who love him dearly, two best mates he can count on for anything, and a girlfriend of roughly 6 years who adores him. Everything in his life is perfect. Isn't it? But the picture perfect life of Remus Lupin is just that. An image of who he is supposed to be. Not who he is. The cookie cutter world he has always known comes crumbling down when he befriends Sirius Black.
