It was so quiet that I could hear myself breathing. It was so dark that I couldn't see my own hands in front of my face. I was so scared that I was shitting bricks... Well, maybe not that. Oh, you get the point. My breathing came to a stop as I heard a noise outside. It has to be them. Everyone else is probably dead right now. The shuffling feet came closer. I couldn't contain the whimper that managed to escape my lips, despite my mental protests. The footsteps stopped. I crossed my fingers, hoping that whatever was out there would just keep it moving. The feet shuffled closer to the janitor's closet I was in. It wasn't that big, so the best I could do was sink further into the corner. I swear I saw my life flash before my eyes as the door opened. --------- What started off as another day at Belleville High became the nightmare of my life. I lost people I love, and I even found love... Or maybe it's too soon to call it that. I definitely feel something, though. Which is good. Everyday, people take advantage of the fact that we are alive and able to control our urges and feelings. It wasn't until the day the zombie apocalypse stared that I realized that, though.
