Ren Sayatori: defined by the Kanto Police as a vendetta-driven vigilante who interferes with the police investigations and gets in their way BUT can’t be arrested due to her young age. In March, Lysandre, the leader of Team Flare, rose up and unearthed the Ultimate Weapon, only to be defeated by the Defender of Kalos. Then, the organization dissolved. ...Nearly. However, now some Team Flare grunts and admin still remain, and those that are left are convinced that somehow they will still achieve their goal. And they’ve been united again to do so. But not with the help of Lysandre. As Team Flare’s actions come to light, Ren and Kota go against orders and get involved, figuring out that the newly arisen organization is nothing like Lysandre’s and that its goal is vilely mutilated and infinitely more genius.

As the two travel, obstacles are placed in their path. Merii's past, the only secret she's tried to keep hidden, is starting to surface. Winston's enemies are targeting them at every corner. They reluctantly travel together and Riley becomes aware of a name being used to refer to her: Champion, though she hasn't won any gym badges or done anything special. Meanwhile, in the shadows, Team Plasma reorganizes, gaining strength under corrupt Sages and officers and led by Ghetsis. The team preaches a new direction, but the same motives added to a more "direct" and violent approach. It searches for objects it's lost and powerful members who've fled; all the while planning a destructive and unstoppable endgame, eventually crossing paths with Riley. The new trainer sees Team Plasma's vile actions and builds up a hatred for it, becoming determined to stop them whenever they meet while continuing THE JOURNEY OF A CHAMPION.
