Amanda is in the park one day after moving away from her ex-husband when she finds a small boy. This would be a simple problem to solve, but this little boy is quite literally the size of her hand and his parents are nowhere to be found. Unable to leave the boy behind, Amanda decides to take the boy in and take care of him while she tries to discover the mystery of who this little boy is. The boy, because of his size, presents a whole new set of challenges for the adoptive mother. ~~~~~^*^*^*^*^~~~~~ Parker knew he was different, but never truly understood why. He was unnaturally good at balancing. He had keen hearing and sight. His senses always felt heightened and he could predict when people were near. Though his step-father leads the family, it is his blunder which has forced the family to migrate on the cusp of winter. Soren must fight daily to help his family survive; however, he knows nothing about the occupants of this new building. Who lives here? What innate dangers do these humans possess? A Borrower named Hero is out borrowing with his older sibling(s) and sees one of their human hosts watching an animated TV series about villains and heroes, people who stand for good and help make the world a better place. He is enthralled with the idea of living up to his name and begins a secret, vigilante lifestyle to make sure the humans "in his care" are safe. What happens when he is put to the test? Will his activities be explained away? Or will they get him caught?

My first ever g/t work. Inspired by Arrietty, although different plot. Contains sfw interactions only (minus some angst) (43,000~ words). Everything takes place in modern day, but in a fictional reality where little beings (borrowers) live in the walls and take things that humans don't need. They're incredibly timid creatures, but excellent survivors and very agile. They'd look 100% human if not for their ears, tails, and feet. Carter is the youngest in a family of four, resilient with a daredevil spirit. After a tragic turn of events he's left to fend for his own, and manages alright, until the unimaginable happens. He ventures on, hoping to find a new place to stay, but hope can only take him so far. It's Christmas Eve in the Harlin household, and their daughter has just brought something interesting inside that would change all of their lives forever.
