Hate. Resentment. Bitterness.
These were the only words Ramona and Oona had ever needed to describe whatever this was between them.
Ramona would say it started the day she left. No goodbye, no explanation, just an empty room and a year of silence. She told herself it didn't matter, that leaving was the right call, that Oona was better off forgetting her name entirely.
Oona doesn't need convincing. She's spent a year convincing herself she's over it, that Ramona is nothing more than a mistake she made once and buried. Yet somehow, being back on this island with her feels like picking at a wound that never actually closed.
To make things worse, Oona's past isn't done with her either. Her ex is back too, the one relationship that actually meant something, the one that lasted longer than anything she ever had with Ramona. Now she's caught between the two, one who broke her slowly and one who broke her all at once.
Ramona and Oona tell everyone, and themselves, that they can't stand each other. Every room they're forced to share turns into a fight. Every fight ends somewhere neither of them wants to admit out loud.
They loathe each other.
That's what they keep saying.
But there is one thing they can't control.
The heart wants what it wants.
