This is a completed novel that has been proofed. Editing will begin in April, 2022. Shortly after the first ships were sent to colonize Mars all communication with Earth was lost. The other ships that were supposed to arrive never did. What had started as the first of many became the only ones. Domes were built to protect the people living there, since Mars could not be conquered as the early scientists had hoped. Rather than their dreams of taming a planet, they settled for living with a place never meant for humans. Kierst is one of the descendants of those early settlers and works on the interior of one the domes. His job gives him the solitude he prefers with both work and home. He has no family and no friends, which is one of the reasons he is chosen to learn the truth about what happened to Earth and why everyone on Mars must return. He is among a small group who are entrusted with the greatest secret of his government. If his group fails, there will be no future for those living on Mars. Their secret fate lies with those who must return to Earth.

The world as humanity knew it was gone. In its place was a radioactive wasteland, scorched by nuclear furnaces. The third millenium passed unmarked and uncelebrated by those in the safezones. The rich took to the oceans, and to the skies, leaving everyone else behind. Stranded in the isolated "safe zones", with no knowledge of the worlds above their heads. Igor Jonovich changed everything. Nanotechnology, long thought to be impossible, flourished under his genius. Even as the walls of their radioactive cage closed in, humanity pushed back, harnessing Jonovich's creations to explore the radioactive wastelands. To challenge the twisted creatures that lurked in the ashes of their former glory. Humanity thought they, at least, knew this scarred earth. It turns out even that was a lie. Yesterday Jared found a message hidden within Professor Jonovich's greatest work that changed everything.

In the late 21st century, the Earth has been ravaged by climate change. With the help of a bioengineered virus, the billionaires of the early 2000s have become immortal, divided the last habitable biospheres on the planet into their personal shares, and moved to Mars. The rest of humanity subsists on bug proteins and printed foods. Ian Gateman, one of Earth's last bureaucrats, soldiers on with the settlement of ecological refugees while he, his wife, Anne, and their son, Alex, look forward to life on Mars. When Anne becomes terminally ill, she decides to upload her consciousness and live forever in Lotus: a corporate owned virtual reality. To keep up with the monthly payments of Anne's residency and stop Lotus from deleting her consciousness, Ian takes on a new assignment. He must travel to the estate of Ernest Trimalchio and petition visiting Shareholders to buy a fledgling colony of ecological refugees. As Ian tries to flog the colony to a brooding class of bored immortal men and women, it becomes clear that the Shareholders have their own plans for the future of humanity.
