Kyoka Jirou's mother died in a fatal accident. Her mother was the only person (aside from middle school bullies) that knew she was a lesbian. Faced with grief for the person she loved most, Kyoka's mental health went down the drain. Momo Yaoyorozu was raised in an abusive household. Her parents would beat her when she didn't reach their expectations, hence why she was a straight-A student.
