Whatever mood they feel, the ring changes to a color that indicates that. And once the soulmates meet, the ring turns silver and is able to be slipped on and off whenever. Zak has always wondered about when he would be able to see the color of the sky, or the grass or even his mother's eyes. All his life, he's lived surrounded by shades of white, black and grey.
