The only reason Maleficent was at the Moors' nursery was to take census of all of her new subjects born that season. She insisted that she didn't have a mother's heart, not a single maternal bone in her body, and Diaval was willing to concede to that. But maybe she had something else... AU: When Queen Ingrith dares to suggest she would be a better mother for Aurora than Maleficent, it isn't Maleficent who has the big outburst, but rather, it is Aurora, who is just as protective of Maleficent as Maleficent is of her. And then later, when a guard makes the same mistake with Diaval, Aurora is just as quick to defend him too.
