Gli zingari erano arrivati un mese prima, con una mezza dozzina di carri coperti trainati da cavalli e avevano piantato le loro tende su un campo inutilizzato entro i confini della vecchia fattoria Haskins. Louis, quando arrivò per visitare alcuni malati insieme a Niall, sapeva che gli adulti lo stavano osservando dai carri, così infilò una mano in tasca ed estrasse una manciata di caramelle, che distribuì subito ai piccoli.
