"Mittens, you look horrible..." "Thanks," Amity shot back, but her voice was too weak for it to actually sound sassy. She looked like she was on the verge of tears. "I overslept. I'm going to be late..." Amity looked so unbearably guilty. "You're not seriously considering going to school today!" Emira protested. It wasn't as surprising as she wished it had been. This was just what Mittens was like, courtesy of the massive amount of pressure their parents put on all of them. Emira felt like her heart was being ripped out of her chest as she watched her little sister struggle to stand, still insisting on going to school because she didn't want to disappoint their parents. "Mittens, please go back to bed." "'M fine," Amity insisted, slowly removing her hand from the bed and taking a couple unsteady steps forward as if to prove her point. Then, just like that, she collapsed in the middle of the bedroom. -- Or: Amity comes down with a bad case of bone flu. Luckily(?) Ed and Em are there to help.

Emira Blight had a problem. It began with the fact that she'd not brought a jacket to the date. And, well, Em wouldn't be Em if she could just give in and admit to her girlfriend that she was cold. Nope. Not happening. Emira Blight was willing to do a lot of things, but admitting she was cold after Viney had told her to bring a jacket was not one of them.

Things hadn't always been like this. They had actually been pretty close once, back when they'd been little. Faded memories of offering a baby her favorite toy and excitedly chatting with Amity before she was even capable of answering, of pillow forts and sleepovers in each other's rooms, of late-night reading sessions when their parents believed them to be asleep, snuck back to the front of Emira's mind. Now, all that remained was the game their parents played. Their bond, carefully severed through years of intentional misconceptions, had been turned into just another puppet string. Amity comes home after Lost in Language, and her siblings are forced to confront the feelings they hurt. But they might not be the only ones. OR: The Blight children finally figure out what their parents' game is, and decide they're done playing it.

In which having crushes is weird, falling in love is complicated, and seemingly impossible (like a complex riddle written in a language you don't understand), until it very much isn't. Or: the author's sexuality is confusing as hell and she's decided to make that Edric's problem.

"Belos gave me a choice. He told me to get rid of Luz, one way or another. And I did. Now everyone's back in the realm they belong in, nobody got hurt and Luz is forever out of danger. It's best for everyone involved that way." "Keep telling yourself that, Lily." Eda glared daggers at her sister. "Oh, and solid job on locking your own protégée out of the Boiling Isles, by the way." "What are you talking about?" "Amity went through the door after Luz," Emira chimed in. Her voice was scarily monotone. "Now she's trapped on the other side of the portal you just destroyed." - Summer has come to an end, and it's time for Luz to return home to Camila. Amity only finds the courage to tell her friend how she feels about her when the door closes behind Luz, and makes the rash decision to follow her. Then something goes wrong, stranding Amity with Luz, far away from everything she's ever known. Meanwhile, life soldiers on in the Boiling Isles, but unbeknownst to Amity, her disappearance will radically alter the lives of those close to her. Eda, Edric, Emira, Willow and Gus resolve to do everything in their power to bring her back, but not without facing challenges of their own. - Canon divergent as of AOAW! There is a lot more to this story than Lumity, although I do not blame anyone for reading the story for the Lumity parts XD That being said: have fun! Cover is a commission by @rocktell on Instagram!
