Kino travels through the countries and forests of the world. Her only companion is a talking motorrad named Hermes. She spends three days in each country, on the principle that this is enough time to learn almost everything that is important about a place, while still leaving time to explore new lands. As she travels, she experiences the cultures of these countries firsthand. Some are filled with brutality, loneliness, oppression, and tragedy. Others, however, are filled with love and compassion.
