"Look at me properly and try to remember." He implored her, his silvery eyes boring into hers. Maya raised her nervous eyes to meet his. Searching her head, she tried to remember where she may have met this man before. As she stared at him, a sense of familiarity began to settle. Those eyes... she'd seen them before. Where has she seen them? One by one, the images came. The pictures from a time she had forgotten. She had helped someone with eyes just like this. Still in his embrace, a daunting realisation began to set in. She'd met this man before. Long before he even dreamed of being a king... **************** A tyrant king conquers a kingdom so he can get married to her forgotten princess. People expect a marriage filled with strife and everything but none of that happens. Instead he treats her right, worships her and kisses the very ground she walks on. Why is that? People wonder. The reason is quite simple. Years ago, the same princess had saved his life from the bitter hands of death when he was betrayed by his half brother, the crown prince of Madonia. Rose Langford was raised by her Uncle and Aunt who always encouraged her independent spirit. Deviating from the norm of the ton, she's remained unmarried and quite content. Though perhaps her rationale to stay as she is stems from her own philandering father. And it is that trait itself which has resulted in her distaste in the most renown rakes of England. William Cecil never wanted to wed. But with the consistent badgering of his sister and grandmother - it seems like he has no choice to settle. Childish and impulsive, his eye's are caught by a challenge he hopes to conquer. Though neither party ever wished for the other - a twist of circumstances seems to have tied their fates together.

I walk into the ballroom to see him staring at me with a smirk on his face. I want to wipe it right off his annoying face. His deadly green eyes locked with my pale blue eyes. I turn my body to the door and run. The cold air hits my face as I run through the doors, my eyes couldn't help but water from the wind. I turn back to see my feet leaving footprints in the thin layer of snow, and to see HIM chasing me around the castle. He was getting closer and closer till I felt a hand grab my arm, spinning my body back to face him. My body hits his muscular body. "Now would be a good time to kill me huh?" I grab my dagger from the outside of my thigh with my free hand, bringing the dagger up to his neck. "I'm not afraid of you Kai." I said with a confident voice. I watch as the blood trickles down his neck. He quickly takes control, pushing my body against the cold castle wall, caging me in with his arms. "Oh I know amore, that's what I love about you." "Wha-" Before I could finish my sentence he had my dagger up to my neck. He grabbed the bottom of my chin with his free hand, lifting my face up to meet his green eyes. I watched as his lips got closer to mine, until I felt his lips moving against mine. We both fought for dominance until I gave up and let him devour my mouth. "Kai we need you back insi-" Kai turns his head back and nods. I couldn't see who it was that interrupted us with kai's body in front of mine. Kai placed my dagger back in my holster, smirking. "Goodbye amore." I was left breathing heavily with my back against the wall, my red lipstick messed up and the taste of his minty breath on my lips.

In a ransom deal gone terribly wrong, Florence Blackmore is swept away from her home in the Victorian countryside and made to test her darkest limits. Fighting to maintain her dignity and avoid the harsh punishment of her captors, Florence must barter for her life while her hope for freedom dwindles. Stuck in a different sort of cage is Isabel Coleman, a new bride to an unhappy marriage who is determined to buy her own escape by disguising herself as a maid in the home of a wealthy -- and handsome -- aristocrat. As her secrets threaten to catch up with her, Isabel learns that choosing her own destiny comes with consequences. ~~~ I always thought that I would be resilient in the face of danger, that some instinct inside of me would claw its way to the surface and the fighter within me would reveal itself. But danger doesn't uncover any hidden strength or innate bravery. It strips away the rational parts of you, the things that you always associated with your core being, like courage and pride and kindness. And once all those extraneous pieces are discarded, you are left as a frightened, quivering animal and nothing more. Maybe people who do terrible things are able to do so because they were never under the impression that they were anything more than animals. Maybe he and I aren't so different. Maybe in the moments when he slips beneath my blankets we are reduced to our most basic natures---his, a monster, and mine, a coward.
