Um espírito maligno coloca um vilarejo em risco e agora dois rivais terão que se unir para salvar quem amam. Na antiga Ise, Yusuke e Tetsurō eram melhores amigos, mas conflitos ancestrais entre suas famílias os levaram a tomar caminhos distintos: Yusuke abandonou tudo para se tornar um samurai, enquanto Tetsurō seguiu seu altruísmo em busca de ser o melhor curandeiro da região. Os livros deixam claro que ninguém que chega ao cume da montanha regressa, mas eles vão até lá juntos pela salvação de Ise.
