Her parents disowned her, having her belongings removed from their home immediately. To most, this would have been tragic, but Val (the name she went by) was ecstatic to be free of their disappointment in her. Now, all she needed to do was ace her job interview and life would be, suddenly, what she had always wanted. Or, so she thought.
