This is a story of how Marisa Coulter became the soulless woman she is in the books. It touches her relationships with Edward and Lord Asriel and hopes to explain of how their relationship becomes so complicated later on. Each chapter depicts a certain age and period of Marisa's life.

Lord Asriel will stop at nothing to get the dust he needs to open the window to the other world, even if that means almost sacrificing his own child, Marisa will however, not stop until her child is by her side and safe, on the journey, she comes across all kinds of trouble, but also help, she battles with the magisterium, her daughter, her daemon, but also eventually meets Mary malone and her world is turned upside down.
