The Batman is a legend mainly told by the people of Gotham, rumors and stories, hoaxes and lies, whatever form it was in, they spread the word around. His popularity grew immensely, reaching out to outside of Gotham and to the rest of the world. After taking down Bane's militia in Gotham, the Batman has yet to be heard of ever again. There are witnesses, but they lack concrete evidence of the existence of the Batman. Even when Batman tore down the invading militia in Gotham, there has never been any footage of his existence, hence he has become a legend, and a hoax. Until now.
