A friends-to-lovers romance... Lainey Campbell and Ben Armstrong have just been dumped. Together. After witnessing each other's heartbreaking rejections, the two opposites strike up an unlikely friendship. Can men and women really just be friends? Lainey is determined to believe so, especially since she's not looking to repeat her past mistakes. But as Lainey turns to Ben for comfort, the line between friends and more starts to blur. She finds herself drawn to his blunt honesty and independent nature. And while Ben may be nursing a broken heart of his own, he's always there for Lainey when she needs him. Still, Lainey knows that falling for Ben would be disastrous. Wishing for her happy ever after with a man who is in love with someone else would only lead to more heartbreak. How could it not when she knows she'll never be the one for him? ~~~ A/N: If you would like to read the complete version of Let Me Be the One, it has now been published. It is available for purchase from Amazon, Apple, Kobo, Barnes & Noble and Google for less than a dollar. It contains the new prologue and is professionally edited. :-D

"Love is..." I explored my brain to find the most suitable word in my dictionary that could fit in the definition I was trying to say; the definition that could make the jerk, sitting opposite me with a smirk on his face, believe in 'love'. "Bullshit?" He offered with a huge arrogant smirk on his face and no matter how much I agreed with him on this particular matter, I couldn't agree. So, instead of nodding my head in agreement, I scowled at him. His smirk grew bigger and he leaned away from me, gazing at me with his piercing grey eyes. "Finding it hard to make me believe in love when you yourself don't believe in that shit, huh?" With his piercing grey gaze fixed on my every move, I realized that 'being the devil's cupid' was going to be a lot tougher than I had initially thought. (By the author of 'And We Meet Again')

A/N: This is an unedited, significantly different version of the soon to be published novel by losangelesque aka L. Akhter. This draft was written when I was 15-18 years old and I highly encourage new readers to read the published version instead. Former high school football star Frank Novak meets profound and depressed loner Lolita Abri - and falls headfirst into love. Throughout the course of one school year, they unravel each other and their sadness, setting apart their differences and realizing that sometimes love isn't enough - and sometimes it just might be. Hudson Ellis is good at his job. Somehow, he manages not to annoy people when he knocks at their doors and asks them to contribute to the charity he works for - instead, he gets them to sign up for sponsoring programmes and fish whatever spare change they have out of their pockets. Even the infamously tough residents of New York City are falling victim to Hudson's easy-going ways and wide smile; that is, until one woman renders him speechless with sarcastic refusals and slams her door in his face. Perhaps Hudson would be able to forget her - if it wasn't for the fact that she lives on the same floor of the next apartment over, and they both have floor-to-ceiling windows that allow for a rather generous view into each other's flats.
