When Jacob's and Maddison's lives cross paths they immediately fall for each other but one thing keeps them apart. For one bad year in Jacob's life Maddison must always be there to protect him against the Devil's creations. But only for one year. If she fails she dies. So she must succeed. But after that one year she may never let Jacob see her again. In fact she will be invisible to him, so he can't see her.

Both of us were very quiet. Slowly we near the prison I lived in for the first seventeen years of my life. We made our way to the back, by the breaker box. Ready? Zach mouthed. I took a breath then nodded. Clarissa, a seventeen (almost eighteen) year old girl, is running away. Her parents set her up for adoption when she was young now she's been adopted so many times she doesn't love or trust anyone. When Clarissa gets a job at a small coffee shop, Zach (an employee there) tries to be around her but Clarissa tries to avoid him. Together they find out the truth in her past.
