I loved this book, these are my head canons

Mateo and Rufus are gone but for their friends, the story is just beginning... A new last day begins, one not full of romantic possibilities but friendships old and new.

They were with their families again, they had an unlimited supply of activities to do, and they didn't have to worry about anything. That is, they didn't have to worry about anything until a mysterious girl showed up at their door with a note, telling them not to trust anyone and to find someone named Vincenzo Moretti... They had two options: Ignore the note and go make out in their new hot tub; or find Vincenzo and figure out what the hell was going on. Mateo knew something was up the moment he took a bite of the French Toast on the morning of September 5, 2017. He knew something was off when he crawled out of the safe space on the bed to go and turn on the oven. He knew he was safe when he felt two strong arms pulling him from the extreme heat. However, panic filled him as he felt the air suddenly grow to nothing. He could hear Rufus muffledly screaming and crying. Something was wrong, something was terribly wrong. He tried to move, he was kicking and yelling out, but he couldn't see anything. His glasses. The fire must've melted them. There was a loud rustle, then the air was back once again, along with the bright light of the moon, which was quickly followed by a blast of pain throughout his entire body. He survived. He cheated death. Rufus was there, sobbing as he hugged the life out of Mateo, who deposite hurting badly, did not push him away. He embraced this, almost like a small victory. His head ached, his muscles ached, the burns that covered his skin ached the most, though. But he was alive. He was alive and so was the love of his life, his dearest and "Last Friend", Rufus. No, not a friend. His soulmate. His boyfriend. His lover. He was not his best friend. He was something far more than that. The Plutos were his best friends, Mateo, was his world. And Rufus was Mateo's world. And they had each other. And would always have each other. They cheated death. They proved Death-Cast wrong. Or so they think. There's still two hours until midnight. Two hours until one of them could die. They were on their way to the hospital, both of them on hospital beds hooked up to oxygen and breathing steadily as they held each other's hands. They were doing it. They were cheating death. They were going to live. They were going to live and they were going to be the d*mn godparents Penny could ever have. They get in touch through an app designed for Deckers trying to make a last friend on their End-Day called the LastFriend app. They meet up and are fortunate to spend almost the entire day together. There were ups and downs but this will be an experience they'll never forget even if they're destined to die at the end. It's almost 9 o'clock and they're both resting in Mateo's bed back at his apartment. **highly recommend reading the book before this~ I read this book a few years ago and it instantly became my favourite. I decided to write this since the end of the book hurt like hell and this was how I dealt with the pain lmao Hopefully I caught all the mistakes when I updated it, if not, please lmk :)
