The Shadowbearer is made to be a stand alone of sorts and a prelude to Etchings of Power. Etchings and the other books that follow are told from different POVs than the Shadowbearer. They are all part of the interconnected worlds of the Cyclic Omniverse that currently spans 8 books. You can start with any series in the Omniverse. Now, to the blurb: In a world where magic corrupts and kingdoms constantly war, the power that drives the world stirs. It whispers promises of greatness in the heads of the men and women that wield it. Now, it has spoken to the mind of a king. Knight Commander Stefan Dorn, leader of the Unvanquished, has known only war, death and, victory. All in the name of his loyalty to King Nerian the Lightbearer, a man he idolized. Until now. Everything he thought he knew about the King, his people, and his world is coming to an end. At a time when there should be peace, he's once again called to war. Torn between shocking changes at home, his family, loyalty to his men and his King, Stefan wishes only to enjoy life away from the battlefield. But with the new campaign comes a rabid, unforgiving enemy and a potential cataclysm. Follow him as he fights to save his family, his people, his honor, and his birthright from the grips of the shade. Can he save them all? If not, which will he choose, which will he lose? Thump - a faint vibration in the earth followed a gust of wind. Four dinosaur-foot-shaped depressions appeared in the grass. Further away, past the depressions, goal posts and trees blurred as if hidden behind slightly translucent glass. Then, it wasn't so translucent. A shape solidified from thin air, slowly, condensing into a shimmering mist. The legs came first, trunks like small trees reaching up to muscular shoulders, perhaps twice his height. The body manifested, enormous, easily the length of a full-sized bus from tail tip to chest. Wings came into view, curling around the body at a distance, like a webbed exoskeleton growing in time lapse. Finally, the head appeared - horns and nostrils and teeth like daggers - connected to the chest by a long neck. It wore silver like a second skin, as if coated in polished scalemail - everything except its spines, claws and other bony protrusions. Like a broken mirror, it reflected the moon and stars. All in all, it was a nightmarish beast, one that in no way, shape or form resembled Wren...or any human for that matter. He took a step back. *** Elias, a professional thief, trains a strange girl named Wren. What will happen when he learns she's attracted to him and when he discovers she can transform into a dragon? What will happen if she ever reveals her darkest secret?

In Hajinn, singing isn't just forbidden: it's well known that it drives people mad. When Rajheem, a boy who loves music above all else, is plucked from his lowly existence to become the personal minstrel to Raja Helen, Third Seat of Hajinn, he is overwhelmingly grateful. As a foreigner, she holds none of the Hajinni superstitions toward music. What Rajheem initially considers a stroke of luck begins to seem like part of a frightening plan. There are Fair Folk in Helen's palace, creatures who walk the line between the world of the living and the world of the dead. They steal children away from their homes in the night, never to be seen again. As the people of Hajinn grow increasingly uneasy with their ruler’s inability to rid them of this infestation, a rumor begins that the Fair Folk were sent from the country to the east. At the same time, Rajheem realizes his singing talents go far beyond the power to create music. He can freeze people in their tracks, invoke fear in the hearts of his enemies, and even bend the fabric of reality itself. This gift embroils Rajheem in Helen's plot to usurp rule of Hajinn. As Rajheem struggles to control his newfound abilities and discover the reason his people abhor music, Helen orchestrates her plans to veer Hajinn toward war with a country it has been at peace with for hundreds of years.
