Aaliyah Church was one of the 20% of the population born without a power also known as a quirk. therefore Aaliyah was mistreated my other people. Aaliyah's mother didn't want a quirkless daughter so she gave Aaliyah away to a lab in hope to give her daughter a quirk. Aaliyah got to quirks but her mother hates one of them. so Aaliyah's right eye is stitched close leaving her quirkless once again. Aaliyah becomes the vigilante cross to hopefully save herself from her past and give herself a purpose and others from dark things that lay hidden in the shadows

Izuku Midoriya never actually intended on becoming a vigilante, it just sort of happened. He stayed out late to avoid his mother at night, and got to know pro hero Eraserhead as a result. After his dream is finally crushed, Izuku isn't quite sure there's anything left for him to live for, but...he can't exactly kill himself either, not without hurting the people he cares the most about.
