Elizabeth is an orphan who is just trying to survive on the streets of Rouage, a futuristic city in a society where steam energy dominates. Recently she's been noticing strange items showing up in the back streets and underbelly of the city. Pushed by self preservation instincts, she begins to investigate. When her discoveries lead her to a masquerade ball, she attends and runs into Walter. Soon figuring out they are investigating the same mystery, they are pulled further into a wildly diabolical plot and maybe towards each other.

Nicole Averill is a not exactly the everyday high school junior. She would rather spend her time day dreaming and thinking about philosophical theories than pay attention to her teachers or her mom. She visits her grandpa every summer to go on a camping trip, but this year he is acting strange. Nicole was hoping for a simple summer of mapping stars and eating marshmallows, but before she and her grandpa leave for the camping trip she finds a mysterious glowing object in her grandpa's basement. Tripping over her own feet she falls into it and is accidently transported to, um... where exactly? Or should she ask when? Nope, definitely where.

The Creature - Short Story

Sophie is a kindred spirit. Fresh out of college, she is still completely naive and innocent. She has the uncanny ability to calm down and tame just about anything from rabid dogs to arrogant alpha males. While preparing her garden for the summer she is approached by a shadowy and hostile figure named Romulus. He heard of her ability and traveled to offer her a proposal: she helps him capture a rampant monster and he'll give her the ability to see what is shielded from humans.
