"You deserved a real man to protect you and take care of you." Mm. So much for that. "How could I have done that sitting behind bars?" He takes my face in his hands. "There wasn't a day that went by where I didn't think about you, baby." I close my eyes as a tear drops down my cheek that he gradually wipes away with his thumb. "I've missed you so much, Leila." He says in a deep raspy tone. His lips hungrily fall to mine. They feel so foreign yet so warm and familiar. Both of us fighting for dominance as our tongues twirl against each other. My breathing hikes and I can't help but feel the wine taking over my body as I drape myself over his lap. I need him so bad right now. He starts biting little trails down my neck, getting close enough to one of my sweet spots. I push off him, and rising to my feet. "Nah. I don't believe you." Backing away from him. He returns a confused look. "Lei-." "If you missed me, you would've reached out to me." He finally stands. Sticking both his hands in his pockets. "One year you've been out. What the fuck have you been doing all this time?" I yell. He takes a step forward. Ting. Both of our eyes cut to the elevator. There's a loud drunken screech, "Damiannnn!" Who the fuck is this bitch??

After serving in the Army and earning a reputation for being sharp, resourceful, and a little too stubborn, she's ready for a fresh start with the LAPD. Rules are there for a reason, and crossing them could cost everything. But when danger closes in on Vivian-both from the job and her past-Tim has to ask himself: is some risk worth taking?

Imani Rice, a vibrant 23-year-old, stood on the brink of a new chapter, poised to graduate from Jamestown University with dual master's degrees in art history and business. The world seemed to shine brightly for her, especially with her upcoming marriage to James Price, a 25-year-old scion of wealth and the heir to the illustrious Price Company. They were set to walk across the stage together, their futures intertwined, and Imani was bursting with joy, eager to share the news of their impending parenthood. Yes, she was pregnant, and the thought of revealing this precious secret to James filled her with anticipation. But fate had other plans. A shocking announcement from a news outlet shattered her dreams: James was to marry someone else. Imani's heart raced as she dialed his number, praying for a mistake. To her disbelief, he answered. Her heart sank as she pleaded for clarity, only to hear the devastating truth from James himself-he had never loved her, and their relationship had been nothing more than a fleeting illusion. Before she could respond, he ended the call, leaving her in a whirlwind of despair, now alone and pregnant. Fast forward several years, and Imani had transformed her life. She emerged as a celebrated museum curator, gracing the covers of Time and Vogue, hailed as the Woman of the Century by The New York Times. Alongside her was Mia, her radiant five-year-old daughter, the light of her life who had been her anchor through the darkest storms. Imani had built a life of success and fulfillment, but just as she thought she had conquered her past, her boss dropped a bombshell: they were partnering with a company eager to enter the museum sector. The twist? It was James's company. Now, Imani faced a new challenge, grappling with the ghosts of her past while navigating sleepless nights and the complexities of her present. How would she confront the man who had once shattered her world?
