After everything Harry has been through, you thought he'd get a break. But no, he was forced to go back to the abusive muggles and a summer as their personal house elf. This causes Harry to ask himself some questions. Why is he forced to stay with muggles? Dumbledore knows so why doesn't he help? Why won't his friends give him a place to stay? Harry decides that he doesn't want to deal with the fame that comes with his name. He changes his name to something else. He inadvertently chooses the one name that would freak Dumbledore out the most. "Riddle, Hadrian!"

Harry stared down at his bleeding hand, the words "I must not tell lies" dripping down his skin in blood-red liquid. And snapped. Harry Potter decides he's had enough of the wizarding world throwing him crap. he's going to throw it right back.

Sirius Black makes the smart choice and doesn't go after Pettigrew when James and Lily are killed. Instead he takes Harry from the cottage and raises him away from Dumbledore's reach as Albus tries to gain control over Harry's life to use him as a weapon when the Dark Lord finally returns. With Dumbledore failing in this Harry is raised by Sirius at Black manor living in secret to avoid the attention of the wizarding world and Dumbledore until Harry is ready to return at the age of 11 and throw Dumbledore for a loop.
