Nach dem Tod von ihrem Vater, Makoto Sano, nahm Yumikos Mutter Yumiko und zog mit ihr nach Kyoto. Nach etwa einem Jahr voller Trauer, fing Yumikos Mutter mit dem Konsum von Alkohol. Am Anfang dachte sich Yumiko nichts dabei, es war nur ein bisschen Alkohol. Aber es wurde von Monat zu Monat schlimmer. Und so ging es Jahre weiter. Die Mutter von Yumiko fing an gewalttätig zu werden. Jahre musste Yumiko die Schläge ihrer Mutter aushalten. Und irgendwann hielt sie es nicht mehr aus. I just made it to Japan right on time before school started, I decided to go shopping to make myself as comfortable as possible since I haven't been here in a while. As I tried to shop in peace as people looked at me and complimented my hair and skin tone. "A melon for only 6,000 yen (60$) what a steal" I squealed as I grabbed the melon and headed towards the cashier. I handed the cashier my money and headed to two other stores before walking home.
