When Jeremiah and his best friend, Kit, are banished from America for being Powerfuls, a race created by a botched cancer cure, they have to traverse The New Texas Republic in order to reach New Freedom, the place where Powerfuls can lead a normal life. However, when they get there they discover things won't be as normal as they had hoped.
