He was standing just beyond the reach of the headlights, the golden beams lighting him from behind. It made him look unreal. Glowing. Like something not meant to be seen in daylight. His breath left him in a rush. His eyes - those impossible, gorgeous eyes - met mine. They held something I couldn't name. Grief, maybe. Or warning. My heart thudded unevenly. He looked like a miracle and a nightmare in the same breath. "Please, Edward, just tell me what you are." Then, I felt him behind me, his hand brushing against mine for just a moment. "Please," I begged, turning to face him. Looking up into his mesmerizing golden eyes. Edward sighed deeply, his hand raising to my cheek, wiping a stray tear away from my cheek. "I'm a vampire, Roxi."
