Tras el final de la guerra humano-covenant especies que conformaban, el pacto aún seguian recuperando de la guerra pero los humanos, llenos de rencor e ira. Con suficiente poder militar deciden hacer una campaña de exterminio, hacia las especies del antiguo covenant. Tras ese incidente se formaron dos facciones, la que apoyaría a los humanos masacrando a su propia espada y la otra que todas las especies dejarían de lado sus diferencias y se enfocarian en un solo propósito, sobrevivir y volver a ser un gran imperio. A esta facción se le conoció el covenant renacido, tras firmar este tratado todas las especie se llevaron a la mayor población posible en sus naves para ir a un anillo sagrado, tras este acontecimiento los humanos y la otra facción empezaron a cazar a los rebeldes. En un intento desesperado por salvar a su gente, el oraculo les aconseja que activen el halo. Sin más opciones los líderes aceptan no sólo para acabar con su propia vida, si no para acabar con los humanos y los traidores. Pero algo sorprendente pasa la energía del halo no los mata, si que los telestranporto solamente a ellos y a su gente junto con el anillo, a otra universo donde hay un planeta donde aparentemente existe algo que los humanos conocen como magia.
