It's told from James Madison's perspective and follows his struggles and prevails through his first year of college. ***!!!TRIGGER WARNINGS AT THE BEGINNING OF CHAPTERS!!!*** I guarantee you that if you skip those chapters you'll still understand what's happening. These characters are named after real people but a majority of their personalities come from either the Hamilton musical, other fanfictions, or are completely made up. Alexander Hamilton has not had an easy life. After his parents died, he bounced from foster home to foster home in Nevis, each one giving up on him and claiming that he was "too difficult to deal with." After being thrown out of his seventh foster home, he gets adopted by an American couple named George and Martha Washington. George and Martha are incredibly kind and willing to do anything for Alex, but Alex finds it difficult to trust them. He worries that they will become angry with him and throw him out the way the rest of his foster parents did. He finds himself growing more and more depressed and angry, and nothing the Washingtons do can make him feel better. Alex finds himself desparate for acceptance, and ends up in a tumultuous friendship with none other than John Laurens, a gay boy rebelling against his homophobic parents. Will the Washingtons give up on Alex, or will Alex finally learn to trust again.

In it, Laurens works the night shift at a coffee shop (who knows if a 24 hour coffee shop exists, but in fiction, anything is possible), that Hamilton decides to go to when after he gets struck with writer's block. Normal coffee shop AU antics ensue. To be honest, a lot of the story isn't actually in the coffee shop, but... So anyway, it's gay and no one dies...(yet) Buckle up and hold on. (Cover by yamhaylet)
