⭐️ 2016 Watty Award Winner ⭐️ Willa Grainger is your average twenty-four-year old with one exception - she never left her university. A year after she graduated she still remains employed with Professor Paige Grimsby, acclaimed author of the popular Simeon Lee series. Her struggles to find a boyfriend, find a job, and write the next bestseller seem like a walk in the park when it comes to her volatile on-again, off-again relationship with her friend Cynthia Smoak, one-third of their best friend trio. But Cynthia's always been competing against Willa in a game Willa didn't even know she was playing. When she does something unforgivable, Willa's forced to examine her life and her friendships, leading her to a new romance with an unlikely young man - a former student who's convinced Paige stole his undergraduate novel idea. Willa's never been comfortable with change and the experiences she's encountered during her extended internship with Paige makes her question who she is and what happens when the people you're friends with aren't the people you like.

In a city filled with corrupt government systems and underlying threats, Grace Summerland can’t accept the fact that the mysterious ‘Night Vigilante’ is as bad as everyone makes him out to be, not when he has the same eyes as the boy who saved her ten years ago. All of Grace’s life has been made up of lies, ranging from her father’s disappearance to the night she almost died, and Grace is all too willing to risk it all in an attempt to finally know the truth. Agreeing to betray the son of the most powerful man in Citadel, Grace doesn’t even know half of what she is getting herself into with all the secrecy surrounding her family and her connection to the Vigilante and Citadel. The only things she knows for sure after walking home to find the notorious Night Vigilante bleeding and asking for her help, is that it’s going to take more than a few stiches to get this town “Villain” back on his feet- Especially since she seems to be the one doing all the falling. ~*~ Cole Waters is the Night Vigilante. Adopted into an elite faction called the Vigilantes, Cole embraces the idea of selfless bravery, and courage found in humility. What he finds though is that it’s a lot harder to be selfless when he can’t seem to leave the mysterious girl he saved years ago. Careening faster into the web of Citadel corruption, Vigilante deception and the fierce desire for a girl he can never have, Cole finds himself being deemed as the “Villain” of the city when all he wants to do is help. Being good was never easy to begin with, but being a ‘hero’ has never seemed to be as impossible as it has been until now- especially when falling in love with the girl means forsaking the selfless to embody the selfish. ~*~ Book soundtrack: http://8tracks.com/smarsbars157/the-night-vigilante Ranking: Action #86

High school in the early 90s: it was before cell phones and social media, but the problems were the same. How do you get the guy you're interested in to notice you? What happens if you fall in love with your best friend? Why does physics class keep factoring into your love life? This novella is loosely based on my own high school experiences... but sort of an alternate version of them. You can only make one set of choices in life, so it's fun to explore what could have been - but wasn't - in fiction. Also, set in 1991-92, this is kind of a period piece now! In some ways it's a love letter to the teen books I read back in the 80s and 90s, in particular those by Ellen Conford and Paula Danzinger. I hope you enjoy it.
