“That constellation sort of looks like a hand.” The girl huddled next to me points her hand to the sky, tracing an outline of the shape she saw. Her other hand was in mine, resting on my torso in a tangled mess. Her legs were pressed against my side for warmth, and were burning a hole in my resolve. I sighed in fascination, gently brushing a piece of hair away from her face, as her eyes shone in excitement. She nudged me, indicating that my turn had come to find a shape in the endless starry sky. I grunted rather ungracefully, and swept my eyes across the dark abyss. There were hardly any city lights and air pollution where Darci lived, so the stars glittered brightly, giving the impression that god had created the cosmos by laying down black velvet and spinning silver and gold sequins on the fabric to reflect wishes and dreams.
