Tomioka Giyuu is emotionally and physically scarred from his sister and best friends' death. He's very quiet and distances himself from others just so that he doesn't get attached and his bad luck spreads on to them. He has suicidal thoughts and uses unhealthy coping mechanisms to help with the pain and suffering. Through out the story, we learn more about Giyuu's past and why he is how he is in the present and we will also see how Giyuu overcomes his negative and suicidal thoughts and becomes happy once again. He's not sure how but Rengoku Kyojuro fell hard for the painfully oblivious and "emotionless" water pillar, Tomioka Giyu. Giyuu was sick not that any of the other pillars knew (or cared, so he thought). He was hit by a blood demon art in the final selection when he saw his best friend die right before his eyes, right when something inside him snapped and Giyuu lost the light in his eyes. His time was running out... Not that he cared he was happy that death would show its ugly face to him so that he could die, be at peace, and with his best friend again. Giyuu feared being a lone but he feared the pain of losing one close to him again so he distanced himself from his fellow hashiras, for that very reason as well as the facts that he knew his time was short (so he didn't want anyone to care about him), and that he didn't deserve to be a hashira it should've been Sabito. Bruno is very timid and shy. He's having trouble coming back into the family. He begins getting visions involuntarily. The visions make him even more paranoid. He doesn't want his family to find out. He just wants to be normal like the rest of them. But, the visions eventually get too much for him and he tells his sister's for help. Inevitably, nothing can be done.. He never knows when a "flash vision" will come. And if he holds it back, there will be concequeces yet to learn. They become more frequent and he sees a vision about the village he wished he'd never seen. He tries his best to stop the visions, but they still go on and on..
